I’m sorry. I just don’t understand why everyone is voting for REGGIE!. It’s disgusting. It’s a travesty. It shows you guys don’t have the sense to get out of the rain. You’re a bunch of idiots with no sense of taste. It has to be the most repulsive vote I have ever seen…..what?…..you’re kidding me?…….is that right?……sorry, I’ve just been told we’re voting for ballplayers and not candy bars…..never mind.

I was never a Yankees fan, and never a Reggie Jackson fan, but I did like the candy bar pretty well. It was probably better than a Baby Ruth.

Wasn’t the Baby Ruth bar named after a famous wealthy baby? Although, they did say, “Baby” Ruth in the movie “The Babe” starring John Goodman so, hmmm…

The Curtiss Candy Company traditionally claimed that it was named after President Grover Cleveland’s daughter, Ruth Cleveland. The candy maker, located on the same street as Wrigley Field, named the bar “Baby Ruth” in 1921, as Babe Ruth’s fame was on the rise, over 30 years after Cleveland had left the White House, and 17 years after his daughter, Ruth, had died. The company did not negotiate an endorsement deal with Ruth, and many saw the company’s story about the origin of the name to be a devious way to avoid having to pay the baseball player any royalties. Curtiss successfully shut down a rival bar that was approved by, and named for, Ruth, on the grounds that the names were too similar.” (what chutzpah.. they wouldn’t even let him use his own name!)

The Baby Ruth bar was, according to the official story, named after President Glover Cleveland’s daughter. There are other stories in Wikipedia. I’m sure in real life, the Babe being famous had at least an influence on the name. The Curtiss Candy Company just didn’t want to share the profits.
